A flower press is what I asked for. A way to preserve a couple of rose blooms from a bouquet that I wanted to keep hold of.
What did I get? The leaning tower of Ben-isa.
All of the heaviest books and boxes known to man, balanced on a laundry basket that serves no purpose, but was inherited as part of “the great merge” when Ben moved in with me. Two of these stacked items is technically mine.
Did Harper Lee envisage “Go Set s Watchman” as one day contributing towards a flower press? Did the book which inspired the Oscar-winning film, “Hamnet”, ever see itself as finding itself squashed under a copy of “Starfinder” and Ben’s surround sound speaker set? But that’s the joy of bringing together a creative mind with a techie who loves Space.
Sure, an actual flower press probably would have done the job just as well, but where’s the fun in that? (These may or may not have been Ben’s words as I watched the tower continue to lean precariously to one side. That’s when I insisted the laundry basket was brought in, it was the only way to ensure I actually was able to sleep at night.)
If you squint really hard, you’ll see the two/three rose stalks at the very bottom.
